Nurturing Beautiful Character in Muslim Children
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was described by Allah as having the highest moral character: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character" (Surah Al-Qalam 68:4). Instilling Islamic manners (Adab) in childhood shapes loving, respectful, and confident believers.
Core Daily Islamic Etiquettes (Adab)
- 1. Eating & Drinking Etiquette: Always say Bismillah before eating, eat with the right hand, take food from what is directly in front of you, and say Alhamdulillah when finished (Sahih al-Bukhari 5376).
- 2. The Islamic Greeting (Salam): Spread peace by greeting family, classmates, and teachers with "Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh" (Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you).
- 3. Honoring Parents (Birr al-Walidayn): Listen with kindness, speak with gentle words, never say "uff" to them (Surah Al-Isra 17:23), and pray for them: "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small."
- 4. Truthfulness & Honesty (Sidq): Always tell the truth even when nervous. The Prophet ﷺ taught: "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise" (Sahih al-Bukhari 6094).
- 5. Kindness to Friends, Neighbors & Animals: Sharing toys, smiling at others (which is counted as charity!), helping clean up, and feeding pets or birds.
